Recipe AeroPress- The Classic AeroPress Americano Olly J

Summary

This recipe is from Olly J. It’s inspired by Alan Adler his original recipe.

It is a fantastic recipe to use while camping. To avoid bringing so much gear with you, use two heaped tablespoons of pre-ground coffee instead of weighing the 15g. The recipe will be a little less precise, however, I find coffee is always delicious on a walk in the woods or mountains.

  • Style: Standard (Upright) and bypass
  • Vibe: Less precise, easy.
  • Use case: Daily driver / Minimal gear
  • Total time: xx minutes

Step-by-step

  1. Insert the filter into the Fellow Prismo basket, attach it to the AeroPress chamber, and rinse the filter. Let the hot water run all the way through into the cup to warm the chamber, filter, basket, and cup.
    Discard the rinse water.

  2. Place your mug with the AeroPress on top on the scale and tare to 0 g.

  3. Grind 15 g of coffee to a fine consistency add it to the AeroPress.
Gently shake to level the coffee bed.

  4. Boil water and let it sit for ~30 s, or heat to 80°C / 176°F if your kettle is adjustable.

  5. Start your timer and slowly pour 50 g of water (up to the 1 mark on the chamber).

  6. Use the AeroPress paddle to stir vigorously for about 10 s, breaking up all clumps.

  7. Place the plunger on the AeroPress and press down slowly for 20–60 s
until you hear a light hiss. This is your espresso-style concentrate.

  8. Remove the AeroPress. Place only the mug with the espresso back on the scale and tare to 0 g.

  9. Add 150 g of hot water to the espresso to create your americano
(final drink yield in the cup ≈ 170–185 g).
